O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? This line comes from the famous balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. This play is filled with heartbreak, tragedy, and fate. The two main characters, Romeo and Juliet, were lovestruck with one another which lead to a death-marked love. That's what this poem is about; fate and love at first sight. Whether there death was caused from accident, fate, or their own willfulness, there are many parts that show this. Fate is shown in this poem when Romeo went to the party and saw Juliet. Willfulness is shown when Romeo and Juliet kill themselves for each other. Accident is also shown in this poem when the letters that Friar Laurence wrote for Romeo did not reach him. But, it was the incorrect news. He was informed that Juliet was dead, not that she took potion to make her fall asleep. So, Romeo being heavily in love with Juliet decides that he could not think of a life without Juliet being in it, he goes to Juliet and kills himself. Romeo stated, “Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.” (Shakespeare Act v Scene ii line 131) Romeo killing himself for Juliet, which was his true love, was out of his own willfulness because his love for her was so strong. “It seems to me that the question of free will is not simply a black-and-white or yes-no kind of question, but one that embraces the full complexity of what it means to be human.” (Gleiser) What Gleiser is trying to say is that people making their own choices and having free will is a natural thing, and it's human to do so. Although, there are some people that may say that Romeo killing himself for Juliet is immature because they only knew each other a couple days. Yet, if someone is willing to take your life for someone, they are probably in love with them because thats a big choice to choose and a big action to take. Romeo and Juliet took their lives for each other, because they believed that their love was strong and the thought without one in their life, was the worst thought
