Did you know that most of your favorite plays could have been written by the best writer of all time? Romeo and Juliet. Hamlet. Macbeth. All written by one man. William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare was born April 23, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. His mother was Mary Arden. She was the daughter of a landowner. His father was John Shakespeare. He was the son of a farmer. He went to school at King’s new school when he was 6 to when he was 12. He married Anne Hathaway in 1582 when he was 18. They had two daughters and one son. Shakespeare retired 1611-1613.

Shakespeare first play was “The Comedy of Errors”. He wrote that in 1590. The next year he wrote his second play “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”. Two years later he wrote “Love’s Labour’s Lost”. This was the last of his first comedies. From there on he wrote more play’s and became more and more popular. Shakespeare wrote his first tragedie in 1593. It was “Titus Andronicus” Soon after the plague hit. The theatre shut down. Shakespeare decided to write poems. He wrote “Venus and Adonis” and “Rape of Lucrece”. After that he wrote more poems.
