William Shakespeare Although not everyone enjoys him, Shakespeare was an impeccable and inspiring writer during his lifetime. He has done many astonishing things during his life. “[He] wrote over thirty plays…[as well as] invented over thousands over words.” (Poets.org) Just to name off very few of the many remarkable things he had done over his period of fifty-two to fifty-three years. Many have said that Shakespeare had a very peculiar sense of humor, and an even more so peculiar sense of writing. For example Shakespeare’s comedy Taming of the Shrew is about two sisters Bianca and Katharina. Bianca has many, many suitors, but her father refuses to let her marry until her “shrewish” sister Katharina is betrothed herself. Bianca’s suitors convince a man by the name Petruchio to court Katharina. Petruchio agrees to marry Katharina and he takes her to his home where he decides he is going to make her completely and utterly submissive to him. He starves her, denies her new clothing, and denies her sleep, but he gives her continuous praises. This “tames” Katharina. Them they return to Padua where they find Bianca to be married to Lucentio, at a banquet Petruchio and Lucentio wager on who is the most obedient wife. Both wives are given a set of tasks and only Katharina obeys, afterwards she gives a lecture on the high importance of wifely submission.
