William Shakespeare is a well-known author and playwright from the United Kingdom that expressed his feelings about the king reining at the time, King James, and put them into the play, King Lear. Shakespeare’s main focus throughout the play was the element of power and the play is still relevant today because sexist terms are still used every day and that across the world we still have monarchy governments. The Renaissance is the period of time following the middle ages where Europe saw a big revival and change in history and everything around them. Edgar’s dirty deed in the play is going behind his brother Edmund, and his father’s backs and saying that they are going to kill each other but in reality, Edgar was planning to kill both his brother and father for the throne. Edgar’s plan ultimately backfires on him because his father and brother figure out the plan that Edgar created to kill them and Edgar ultimately ends up being killed in the end of the play. In conclusion, the examples of foreshadowing and imagery in this play make it the way it is so the reader can use their imagination and deeply think about the words on the pages and make the story or play come to life.
