“You’re going to the alternative school? What did you do to go there? You’re not a bad student.” If you live in Haysville, you know that there are two high schools. Haysville High, or the “inferior” school offers an alternative program.
Harel Tillinger In the case presented, Hopewell High School has a practice of saying a voluntary prayer before each football game in which the coaches may participate and these prayers take place on school grounds. A father of two football players on the team, sued the school district because his children do not participate in the team prayers and are ostracized for doing so. In the case of O’Connell v. Hopewell School District, New Jersey, Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr delivers the opinion of the court.
We need assistance in pursuing allegations/charges against the State of Tennessee, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, Cane Ridge High School , specific staff of Cane Ridge High School, and possibly by officers of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. We are seeking to have the law changed, guidelines changed, policies changed, etc. to ensure that all students and guardians do not ever have to go through the living "hell" we have been put through again. We also want the specific wrongs against our "children", made right, and perpetrators of these wrongs punished. We demand that actions be put in place to ensure students are not used as "scapegoats", where one student is expelled on what amounts to a technicality, while another,
Case Citation: Santa Fe Independent School Dist. v. Doe, 530 U.S. 290 (2000) Parties: Santa Fe Independent School District/ Petitioner Jane Doe/ Respondent Facts: Prior to 1995, Santa Fe High School established a policy which allows their student council chaplain to deliver a Christian prayer through the school’s public address system before home football games of the school’s team. The practice was repeated before every football game. The mothers of one Mormon and one Catholic student filed a suit, claiming that the prayer policy violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
The District Attorney threatened the students as he said, “‘I can be your best friend or your worst enemy. I can take away your lives with a stroke of my pen’”(United Nations Chronicle). Many more things occurred which led up to the fight, a large fire, and as to who started it, it is still unsolved. A black person entered a predominantly white party, and was beat up. On Monday, December, 4, a white student who had allegedly been saying racial slurs, calling a group of black boys horrible things, and openly supporting the students who hung nooses from the tree was beaten up at an off campus party.
Looking through the eyes of her classmates, Melinda is a social reject, a freak, a target. “The girl behind me jams her knees onto my back…the girl with the arrested brother…yanks my hair…”(29). In a feeble attempt to get revenge, two students used childish antics to get their message of anger across to Melinda. They expressed their resentment for Melinda for ruining a party, but their actions had been influenced by a tiny puzzle piece of information that they had believed to be the bigger picture. They neither witnessed nor asked what happened to Melinda as to why she called the police during the party.
A large group of white students surrounded the group and began to insult them. The attack began initially with words and quickly moved to a physical altercation. All of the condiments from the counter were smeared all over them as the verbal assault continued. A short time later Anne Moody was ripped from her seat and physically pulled, by her hair, to the door. The attack finally ended for the group when Dr. Beittel, the president of Tougaloo College, arrived and helped them to safety.
The nine weren’t able to participate in some of the school activities that went on for other students. One of the Little Rock Nine, Minnijean Brown, had food spilled on her. The students who did it never got in trouble. When Brown decided she had enough and decided to spill food back on them, she got suspended. She had also been hit with a purse from one of the other students (Smithsonian.com).
this is an example how corruption of power can also be a bullying situation. Another example is the Amanda Todd story. in her situation Amanda Todd's bullies were coming from all places , at her school and anonymous online. the more people who bully a person the more power the bullies have over the victim even as individuals. In the play, the girls had gone on convincing the towns people that they could see the devil and that they were trying to save the town from the people with evil spirits.
It all started when John Dudley announced over the loudspeaker during morning announcements, “Carolyn Coefield has lost her red pocketbook. If anyone has found it, please return it to the office.” On cue everyone had stood up and walked out the main door, they had kept walking following the designated path(NCPEDIA). All students had marched from Adkin High School to Queen Street, then to the recreation center on Easy Bright Street(NCPEDIA). Some of the students had been carrying homemade signs that said thing like “Freedom,” “Equal Rights,” and “Education.”(NCPEDIA).
Several incidents were found to have occurred on and off of school grounds for over a period of 2 days. The incident was portrayed in the media as being an interracial problem between Asian and black although evidence exists that other nationalities were involved. Asian students subsequently boycotted the school for approximately three weeks because they said they didn’t feel safe. These incidents took center stage with the focus being shifted soley to security. School security officers increased from 2 to 15 on campus.
One day one of the minority students walked in the bathroom to whiteness all of the 7 students listed under a title that stated "Kill A Nigga Day". And "KKK" was posted on all 7 students lockers. He told the people that names were listed and they all went home to address their parents about the issue. My parents are all about their kids so they took it very seriously. They filed a lawsuit on the whitewater high school district because when they confronted the principle he had nothing more to say but "it 's all just a joke".
According to the passage “Little Rock Nine,” the author states, “Other students teased them and attacked them almost daily. Some white students spit on them. One girl had acid thrown in her eyes and was nearly set on fire. Another girl fought back by dumping a bowl of chili onto students that were harassing her.”

These skills are very important in solving the future problems. School is a place that can hold a lot of tension and pressures for kids of all ages. It is also one of the first places (after the home) where a child begins learning how to interact with peers. This can, of course, lead to many conflicts. In order to help students not turn into bullies or become paralyzed with shyness, teaching methods of conflict resolution is a great tool.
