We were on a fact finding mission to find a Northwest Passage, become friends with the Native Americans and tell them that America now owns the land, and collect information about plants and animal. The trip began in May of 1804 from St. Louis traveling to the Pacific Ocean and in September of 1806 we returned to St. Louis. On September 7,1804 we ran into an animal we named a prairie dog.

After the baby was delivered the parents chose a name.
Theda Perdue`s Cherokee Women: Gender and Culture Change, 1700-1835, is a book that greatly depicts what life had been like for many Native Americans as they were under European Conquering. This book was published in 1998, Perdue was influenced by a Cherokee Stomp Dance in northeastern Oklahoma. She had admired the Cherokee society construction of gender which she used as the subject of this book. Though the title Cherokee Women infers that the book focuses on the lives of only Cherokee women, Perdue actually shines light upon the way women 's roles affected the Native cultures and Cherokee-American relations. In the book, there is a focus on the way that gender roles affected the way different tribes were run in the 1700 and 1800`s.
From the seventh to the nineteenth century, the Cherokee people underwent an important time of gender and cultural change. In Cherokee Women: Gender and Cultural Change, 1700-1835, the author Theda Perdue reconstructs the history of the Cherokee people by placing women as the focus and by examining their gender roles. Throughout the novel, Perdue successfully argues previous narratives made about the Cherokee’s history and offers an alternative to the reading of their history. In order to support such an alternative, the author has created a detailed timeline of the events that lead to such a shift in the gender roles of the Cherokee from 1700 to 1835.

Thesis: The English were a prideful group, entangled in ethnocentrism, that caused a condescending and harsh treatment of the Native Americans, while the Native Americans were actually a dynamic and superior society, which led to the resentment and strife between the groups. P1: English view of Native Americans in VA Even though the English were subordinates of the Powhatan, they disrespected him and his chiefdom due to their preconceived beliefs that they were inferior. “Although the Country people are very barbarous, yet have they amongst them such government...that would be counted very civil… [by having] a Monarchical government” (Smith 22). John Smith acknowledges the “very civil” government of the Natives but still disrespected them by calling them “very barbarous,” which
The Hoh Native American tribe has lived amongst the Nature Bridge camp for many centuries and has many interesting topics to study such as the reservation, people, food, clothing, recreation, religion, myths and legends, the age of the tribe, and the important events on the history of the tribe. Because of these, the tribe is rich in history and culture, making it a great essay topic to study for my Nature Bridge trip of 2017. The Hoh generally live in the northwestern part of Washington, and they have an entire reservation where a majority of their population lives. This reservation is on the Pacific coast, on the mouth of the Hoh River.
They lived in family clusters, or close together. Extended family consisted of a husband, wife unmarried children, married daughters, married daughters husband, and married daughters children. To speak to each other they’d speak in Southern Athabaskan. Some still speak it today. There current population 5000-6000 people that are Apache.
The Apache tribes were based in parts of New Mexico and Arizona. They were defeated by the Comanche tribe, which forced them to move to these states. The Apache people did a lot of different forms of art in their pastime including pottery, basketry, and bead work. They also made a lot of different kinds of jewelry. They made silver jewelry, chokers, and large necklaces.
The Apache Indians originally came from the Alaskan region, and part of the American Southwest. Over time the tribes travelled to the United States and currently reside in Oklahoma and Texas and on reservations in Arizona and New Mexico. The Apaches were known as Nomads because they travelled around, and never settled on reservations for a long period of time. Since the nomads never settled anywhere for long, they were not accustomed to the different types of agriculture on the land which caused other tribes to overtake the land and cause the nomads to travel elsewhere.
