Final Paper: “Wonder Woman 9” Analysis The comic “Wonder Woman 9” by George Perez was released on August 5th, 1987, this depiction of Wonder Woman was the ninth comic written by George Perez. This comic opens with an old man, Chuma, feeding the plant god that created the villain, Cheetah. After this intriguing intro, it opens with Wonder Woman and Myndi going to visit Dr. Minerva’s office, trusting that there is a second Girdle of Gaea. However, they quickly learn the archaeologist lied when she examines the lasso of truth forcing her to admit to Wonder Woman that the meeting was a lie to get the lasso to her. Wonder Woman feels the ultimate feeling of betrayal and storms off, making Wonder Woman question her purpose. These panels draw in the audience through a classic fight between hero and villain. The audience is familiar with Wonder Woman, but the new character, Cheetah, sets everyone on their toes about how the fight could go. (Perez 20) Through these panels, one can analyze that Wonder Woman feels defeated by the villain getting away after being shot. This portion of the comic represents Campbell’s hero journey, steps the road of trials (81) through the defeat Wonder Woman had to accept since the villain slipped through the lasso and got away. This panel illustrates that the Cheetah may have died from the gunshot wound or escaped right from the hero’s grasp. You can see the conflict Wonder Woman has with herself, knowing the villain may have gotten away due to Julia trying to help. There are a couple of important pieces to this panel outside the road of trials that go with the refusal to the call due to the author illustrating that Wonder Woman is still lost and conflicted about her job in this world when she had to get help in order to
