The theme of Wonder is to not judge a book by its cover. This is because everyone had judged Auggie at the beginning of 5th Grade without even getting to talk to him and knowing his personality. Auggie had many people come up to him or meet him and them ask, “What happened to your face?” But he had Jack Will that would always stick up for him. The theme of this novel was the author’s purpose for writing it the way it is. The story is about how August puts up with his health issues and his deformity. It is mostly during school because it is a very tough for him to start it. For example, Auggie had (something what he refers it to be) a “cheese touch.” This means anyone who touched him, would catch it and no one would touch that person. They were going to walk away after one of the 7th graders made a rude comment that people usually say to Auggie. Which is “What happened to your face?” When they started to ignore them and walk away, the older child said something that irked Auggie and Jack even more. Jack defended Auggie and the bully pushed Jack, making him fall to the ground and stay there because of the pain. August tried to defend himself. Although he wanted to leave. Three of the boys from his class that were the same age as them came in and pushed the bullies around and waited till he was pushed on the ground and then ran before anything else had gone down. This part of the story tells about how Jack used to be a fake friend to Auggie and talk negative things about him to the more popular kids that thought negative things about Auggie because they had not yet known him and his personality. In that part of the book, it shows that Jack actually cares about
