During the year of 1912, a battle arose between four candidates who were running up for election with the names of Woodrow Wilson, William Howard Taft, Theodore Roosevelt and Eugene Debbs. The fellow named Woodrow Wilson was a democrat. The former 26th president of the Unites States named Theodore Roosevelt was also running up for election. Roosevelt vanished the Republican party to create his own, Progressive party. Whereas, Taft was the Republican nominee and Debbs was the socialist party candidate.

Theodore Roosevelt Jr. and Thomas Woodrow Wilson, became the 26th and 28th Presidents of the United States (Brinkley, 497,503) and are known as two of the nation’s greatest. On the surface, they appear to be so very completely different in their lifestyles, style of governing and solutions in foreign and domestic policy. Below the surface though, were these two men more alike and fighting for the same goal? Growing up in the mid 1880’s, these two men exhibited some distinct commonalities, however, there were many differences as well.

TR was a realist who was capable of shrewd diplomacy and peacemaking and viewed America as emerging world power whose values and ideals would have an ennobling effect on the world. He favored imperialism and increasing American influence and prestige, willing to use force when necessary while practicing the art of persuasion. This was evident when he used heavy-handed tactics in securing rights to construct a canal in Panama. Therefore, I did some research and I have established that Government is a group that exercises dominant power over a nation, state, society or other body of people. Governments are commonly responsible for constructing and implementing laws, handling money, and defending the general population from external threats, and may have other obligations or privileges. All over the world, there are many different types of government within countries. Each kind has its advantages as well as disadvantages regarding the general well-being of its peoples and economy.
