Before World War I and II most Women were uneducated and stuck at home doing house work due to society’s attitude towards a working women. This all changed once the wars began with an initial small change during WWI when they were needed for the extra production of war supplies and the women that joined stayed in the work force. During WWII, however, a major change occurred with many more women joining the work force and the feminist movement gaining ground. Today the stereotype that women want to work at home is false because most women even if they had wanted to work before the wars did not have the option to due to lack of education and job availabilities. Now there are many more fields open to women that were traditionally considered men’s fields allowing many more women go into the labor force. Now when women are young they are introduced and shown the field of science and math, creating more interest in these fields thereby decreasing the amount of women who want to stay home. For example engineering was a traditionally considered a man’s field but today many women take part in it. A movie is coming out called “Hidden Figures” showing women working in NASA as mathematicians and engineers. Also young girls are being introduced towards these fields with toys that have come out that push engineering concepts such as Legos for girls. Another example of the opening of fields for women is the military. In the US women can now serve in every position that a man can—including the front line. Women never really wanted to stay at home but due to the lack of education and job opportunities it was not very possible to work. Now that it is very possible and they are pushed to go into all fields a lot more women want to work than stay at
