Did you know that just the death of two people started a war where over 17 million people ended up dying? Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s wife Sophie and himself were assassinated by Gavrilo Princip. Gavrilo Princip was from Austria-Hungary and from a ethnical group called the “serbs”. The serbs mostly consisted of Serbians and Bosnians. About a month later Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Later the war actually started when Germany declared war on France. In “Europe in 1914” there is a picture of a map comparing Europe before and after the war. Before world war there were only about 19 countries in europe. After WWI europe ended having 50 countries, this was formed because land was taken from some of the bigger countries. I think this was something good that came out of the war because this way not only a couple of countries are in control of Europe. Trench warfare was created because they realized just going in front of each other isn't going to work anymore. They had to invent something that was going to compete with the modern technology of war. Since there were guns that shot more rapidly going to fight in front of each other is pointless because it would just be pointless and people would just die meaninglessly. The trenches were used for cover and it changed war forever. Trench warfare changed war forever because they didn't just face off and shoot each other they had to use tactics which they actually had to think about and
