The concept of airplanes was desing by Leonardo Da Vinci. The Wright Brothers took his design and started making the first airplane to actually fly on December 17,1903. Airplanes have developed a lot since the Wright Brothers’ plane, starting from getting a lot bigger in size and eventually changing their style to get even bigger. The pilot eventually went from lying down and flying to sitting in middle of the plane while flying.
The concept of something man made that could fly came from Leonardo Da Vinci. But he failed, and there was quite a bit after him who also tried to build a flying machine but they also failed. Then the Wright Brothers had a design and they got it to fly on December 17, 1903 and they changed the face of transportation forever. The Wright Brothers got their basic design from the work by George Cayley, who made models and they passed passenger test but he never made a full airplane that worked. Even the airplanes that we use now comes from his design. The Wright

The first planes started using a propeller for their engine. The amount of thrust the propeller gives off is determined by the area the where the blades rotate or the disk area. If the area is small then the it will have very little efficiency but if the area is really big then the blades will have to move slow and it will have very little thrust and so it doesn't make a really loud noise. Then when the planes started getting bigger they came up with jet engines because the propellers will not work if the plane is wanting to go really fast. The jet engines are also really quieter than the propellers and they work better the higher the altitude is. Now they are testing unmanned aircrafts with electric engines. The military even uses rocket engines which brakes the sound barrier when flown. Most of the aircraft that uses rocket engines needs to be helped in assisted take
