March 20th 2003 is where it all started. I was too young to remember all the details but one memory that I won't ever forget is how scared my family and I were. People screaming and running, parents and children crying, there was just so much to take in. On that day my family was forced to leave our home with only the money we had in our pockets and take a bus to Jordan because our country was invaded and there was nowhere for us to be. I only lived in Iraq for about three years, I was too young to really know what it was like living there. I lived in Jordan for seven years and my family and I had a lot of ups and downs. Moving in the country with barley any money wasn’t too easy. We moved 8 times and the hardest part was changing schools and losing good friends. Due to not having enough money we had to rent very cheap apartments and in the beginning, we lived with a family and there was ten people living in a 2-bedroom apartment. It was very hard for my sister, brother and I but I can't image what my parents were going through. Seeing your kids go through so much pain and hardship even though you are doing everything you can as a parent is one of the most painful feelings a parent can have. I am so thankful to have the parents I do because without them I wouldn’t be the man, I am today. Eventually my dad got good job and we had enough money to move into our own apartment and we lived there for five years. Staying at the same school and not having to worry about moving and going to a different school was a great feeling. Having friends that I knew I wouldn’t lose made me very happy. School was hard at first, since I moved from a different country a lot of kids were very mean and would tell me go back to my country and a lot of other things.
