I live in Ottawa and Halifax for school, but my real second home is in Exuma, Bahamas. I am there about 3-4 months out of the year and spend all my free time there whenever I can. Due to my Dad’s properties, I can go there for free and help every time I am there. It is used as a learning experience each time towards my future and business opportunities, as I watch the island grow as an economy. This is important to me because in the future I plan on growing the economy further, so by watching what works and what does not I can learn from these mistakes. Most of the topics I chose for the learning narrative came from my time in the Bahamas. The reason behind this is because of all the niche businesses on the island I was able to observe. The island has only 5000 people on it, so it was interesting to see how each business made profits or went bankrupt. How does the Bahamas link to me being a better manager? Well, I am living in the resort when I am there, so I am always around all types of managers. I learn how they do their jobs and learn what works and what does not since the resort has been through about 5 different managers in 5 years. Because of this, I have seen the manager experience in a 5 star resort thoroughly and I believe I can use this to my own advantage. For example, I have seen how the restaurant manager operates on his employees and how he talks to customers when they arrive. I have also seen how the general manager works with employees and some of the common problems they face everyday. Such as customers with complaints or problems with overall operations. Furthermore, because of how exposed I am to the manager position I can use that to my advantage to become a better
