In the year of 1787 the constitution was written. The constitution is a body of fundamental principles that establish what the United States is. The 13 colonies of the U.S were the first to establish it. Without this document we would not be civilized citizens. It is an important document for 3 reasons, to limit the power of the government, natural rights of life and liberty for the citizens of the U.S., establishes justice.
In the United States, there are three branches of government; Legislative under which congress creates laws, Judicial under which the supreme court interprets the law and the Executive branch under which the president carries out the laws. This is also called checks and balances. The purpose of this process is to limit the power of the government. If we did not have these countermeasures checks on the branches, anyone could become overpowering. That is why we need to check the balances; to ensure each branch power is equal. For example, The legislative and executive branch checks on the judicial branch:
Creates lower federal courts
Can impeach and remove judges
Approves appointments of federal judges.

The Bill of Right’s which is also called the first 10 amendments is a set of laws for the right of the individual citizens of the united states to follow. The 1st Amendment protects your right to say what you want and lets you believe in any God you want. You have the right to stand and petition wherever you would like and say what you believe in as long as you are not hurting anyone. One amendment states, that all black men and women can vote, another amendment states the President can only be elected two times consecutively.
