“Urban violence, poverty, corporate greed, and the search for spiritual renewal in a commodity-driven world have inspired much of the literature of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries”(Fierro 132). All around the world today, there are many different kinds of violent acts happening, whether it is based upon your culture, sexual orientation or your social class. Although in the story, Ace claims he did not have any more enemies than anybody else so he is clueless as to who could have shot him. You could assume it was just because it was in a low poverty area, involving drugs and alcohol but even Ace himself is just relieved he did not die. In west Des Moines, Iowa, there was a shooting in the middle of the night after a concert was let out, resulted in the injury of the 24 year old man. Just like in Ace, the cause behind the shooting was unknown. “Witnesses told the police the shooter fled the area. No arrests have been reported” (KCCI News). This remark is similar to the story of Ace because in both instances, both of the shooters fled from the scene of the crime which meant there were no arrests. After the shooting happened people made comments of how they were not very surprised that this happened because of the area it was in and the type of people who lived there. Many people would agree that if the area has a lower income than most and an area where education is not thought as highly of, it is more common for violence like this and in the story of Ace to happen. Although not in this article, there are many incidents where in the news victims could also be portrayed as suspects just because of who they are or what they look like, when Ace is walking down the street after he was shot he gets questioned as if he did something wrong meanwhile he was the one that was
