Why do we write? Why do I write? This question is no-doubt the question that every other writing blog in the world has tried to answer. I’ve always been told to either avoid cliché or embrace it; today cliché and I are going to have a big friendly hug. So why do we write? Why did someone ever think it was a good idea to pick up a pen and write real stories and ones that were made up? Why not commit them to memory only? Who in their right mind ever thought this was an easy and good idea? Because I’m here to break it to you that writing is freaking hard! I sit around with either a laptop or a notebook in my hands ever minute I can spare writing out these crazy ideas and hoping one day I’ll feel ready to let someone share in the adventure I’ve created. I spend countless hours looking for the perfect words to form living, flowing sentences that capture attention. Why do I have this need? Why do I wish to create worlds from the stroke of a pen? Well to me it’s just as exciting as it sounds. When I sit down in the morning, the evening, or the twenty minutes I have for lunch in-between class and begin to write I ultimately feel that it will amount to something in the future. I’ve watched people spend the precious time they have on instagram or playing silly phone games when they could be creating something out of nothing. For me, writing will eventually give me something that’s tangible and entirely of my own creation. It’s incredibly exciting!
