As a student, in school, I was first taught the alphabet in kindergarten. As the years passed, I learned to put those letters of the alphabet together to make words, sentences, paragraphs, and lastly essays in high school. For a large part of my high school career, my writings haven’t seemed to improve much, since I never took my writings seriously. After taking this class I have realized there is more to an essay than just putting words on a paper. Expanding your writing ability can be very difficult and sometimes annoying, except when done well. Writing a persuasion or research paper can change the thoughts of thousands. Another important element of an essay is the thesis statement. Over the course of this semester, I have written many essays, and in each essay, the thesis is always the most important sentence. I have learned the necessity of combining all my thoughts in an essay in one sentence. The thesis statement is and outline that sets the tone for the rest of the essay. This semester, the class also focused on creating the most effective thesis statement that outlines each essay. I feel that my thesis I have gotten stronger and more effective in each essay that I write. Creating a well-supported body is the next step in an essay. Also throughout this semester, I learned how to paraphrase, synthesize, and quote some information in multiple articles to add them to my essays so that it will make the essay more credible. The difference between summarizing and paraphrasing an article is that paraphrasing forces the information used to be cited while summarizing gives a person an overview of the entire article that a person has
