I remember in high school how the English instructor would tell the importance of a thesis statement. We would discuss how to construct an essay correctly; introduction, body, and conclusion. I often thought of writing an essay as a hamburger. In a hamburger there is the top bun that represents the introduction; the meat, cheese, and lettuce represent the supporting sentences and ideas that support the thesis statement. Then there's the bottom bun that represents the conclusion or ending of the essay. In the reading, there is a 4 step process for writing an effective essay: thesis, supporting evidence, organization, and clear error-free sentences (Bethel University. 2015).
