After reading "Shitty first drafts" by Anne Lamott and "Write before writing" by Donald M. Murray, I concede with their writing process declaration. Donald M. Murray shows the multiple choices to start writing in his article "Write before writing". He says writers should develop an absorption in what they are trying to say so they can incline more comprehension on the subject. Anne Lamott a professional writer uncovers the writers habits and they way they write. In "Shitty first drafts" she describes the thoughts of her own view of the writing process.
When writers begin their writing they are never satisfied to begin with, most do not have a plan while writing they just begin. To go places with your writing you should use your imagination and write what comes to mind. Writers often feel like they are “pulling teeth” while writing, and they certainly have a choice to write and succeed or to give up (Lamott 234). Your first draft should be messy and unorganized of all your thoughts and
In “Should Everybody Write?” by Dennis Baron —a professor of English and linguistics at the University of Illinois— argues that a lot more people are writing due to technological advancement. Earlier technology such as the pen, typewriter, and the printing press have expanded who gets to write. Today, the computer and the internet allows anyone to be a writer as Baron simply states “thanks to the computer and the internet, anyone can be a writer: all you need is a laptop, a Wi-Fi card, and a place to sit at Starbucks” (840). People can “bypass the usual quality controls set by reviewers, editors and publishers” (841). While nowadays anyone can publish their writing without trouble it wasn’t always that way.
One area of the writing process that still needs further development is choosing a topic. I find choosing a topic difficult because depending on what the subject it is, there can be a lot of different topics I could choose. Also, something else I’ve learned from the writing process is that revising and editing are the most important steps in writing an essay. These two steps are important because it helps crisp up and fix any mistakes in the essay.
The main argument of the essay is how to effectively read an essay. The author wants the reader to try out a different way of reading. He points out that we need to fully understand rhetoric to be able to analyze an essay properly. He states that learning the art of persuasion can be difficult, but it will help break down an essay into parts. He also advices taking notes while reading to fully grasp what the author is trying to say.
The first process in writing an effective work, is to plan. Being an author
Another rhetorical technique used by the authors of both of the speeches discussed is emotional appeal. By structuring their speeches in such a way that allows the readers to connect on a personal level, the authors of both of these speeches are able to convey their messages with increased persuasiveness and beauty. In LBJ’s speech, various real world examples as well as personal anecdotes are used to increase the emotional appeal of the writing. One of the places where he uses this is when he states “The Negro citizen may go to register only to be told that the day is wrong, or the hour is late, or the official in charge is absent. And if he persists, and if he manages to present himself to the registrar, he may be disqualified because he
People speak an average of 20,000 words per day. Interestingly, many of those words are used for positive purposes. Even though there is immense hate throughout the world, the words with constructive meanings always shine brighter. The texts I Will Always Write Back and The Book Thief are great examples of that. Words save more lives because they reveal truths, uplift, and inspire.
Did Globalisation killed US Economy Globalisation is the ability of business, technologies, thoughts , ideas, and philosophies to spread throughout the world, or the process of making this happen .It is the process of interaction and integration among the people companies and government of different nations. I have taken some classes on writing and have improved my writing drastically over the years. As with everything, there is plenty to improve on. My high school was a college preparatory school, so we did countless papers. One of my strengths is to be able to come up with a paper fairly quickly, but I do need to improve in some areas. Things I should improve on are word choice and sentence fluency.
Our world is advancing so this means that other unacceptable things will surface and cause problems because we give them the chance to arise. One of the things we can do to make this a better place is tell that someone's in danger which will end up saving their lives. This relates to the article “To Tell or Not to Tell” that provides examples of when someone didn’t say when their friends were in danger, causing them to lose their colleague to negligence. However, there are times when people do tell and they help their friends and possibly save their lives. Although some teens of “To Tell or Not to Tell” by Mary Kate Frank have argued that people don’t speak up because they’d rather not get in trouble or make their friends mad at them, closer examination shows you should speak up because if you don’t, your friends could become severely hurt or die due to your actions.
Reluctantly, I got up and heeded the teacher’s words. My fellow classmates waited in line to turn in their paper and catching their essay length only fortified my disappointment. I need to improve myself. With ninth grade coming to a close, next year's English classes became available. AP Literature and AP Language were listed as possible courses; literature appeared to be manageable, with the teacher stressing that it wouldn't impact your grade.
I start off well with the introduction then by the third paragraph my mind is blank. Funny thing is I have a lot of ideas that I could type but just can’t express them when it’s time to write.
As each writing assignments is graded, I realize how much I have improved as a writer by the grade and the fewer mistakes that I have made in them. As each time the grammatical and spelling mistakes are fewer on each paper. I want to share how I have grown as a writer on second semester by being in class and reflecting on my previous assignments. Even though there weren’t many writing assignments this semester. There were some assignments that I have done poorly on.
My Writing Struggles After taking AP English III, I became better at organizing my papers, but realizing I need to improve my grammar skills and staying focused on my supporting points. All throughout my writing career, I was always thought to be an outstanding writer, especially using vocabulary above my grade range. Naturally, I would see myself as an excellent writer as well until I took Mrs. Bingham’s AP English II course. Mrs. Bingham always gave pointers, tips, and work to improve my class’s writing skills as a whole.
