From my Yoga: East Meets West and How Judaism Approaches Life classes, I have been able to apply the concepts of holistic health into practice. For me, yoga was a practice that helped me connect my mind, body, and spirit. Various styles of yoga incorporate physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation, or relaxation for health purposes. My favorite style was Bikram yoga since it left me feeling mentally and physically better after every class. The Judaism class I took focused on achieving happiness and showing kindness to others. In my Health and Wellness class, we have discussed several topics that can have an effect on our overall health. These topics include nutrition, weight management, alternative medicine, the effects of social media, as well as other issues. This class really put into perspective the multiple factors that can influence our health. Since this class was online, we were able to discuss with our classmates the topic for the week through a forum, allowing us to think more and reflect on how certain issues affect our lives, and gain insight from our peers’ thoughts as well. The concepts of health, quality of life, illness, and recovery are all important ideas to keep in mind when making decisions that can definitely have an impact on one of these aspects. From my Nutrition for Health class, I have learned about how important it is to consider the types of foods we put into our bodies. Diet and exercise are the two concepts that have a major impact on how we maintain our health. We were given an assignment to analyze our diet for a few days as well as log in our exercise routines. After the completion of this assignment, it opened my eyes as to how many vitamins and minerals I am lacking in my diet. This class has taught me to improve the food choices that I make as well as the amount of physical activity I partake on the daily. Stress from school has been a big issue for me and I’m sure for others as well. Yoga offers techniques for promoting relaxation, thus relieving stress. When I took this course and participated in other yoga classes, I was able to see the impact it has made in my life. My mental health has improved significantly which I am very happy about. I still practice yoga occasionally but I also keep mediation and relaxation techniques in mind whenever I am feeling stressed. The holistic health concepts I have learned in these classes are evidently helpful. I plan to continue to implement these practices in my everyday
