In the television series, Z Nation, Season 1: Episode 1 “Puppies and Kittens” beginnings with a flashback of the pre-apocalyptic world. During the pre-apocalypses, there is a zombie (Z) virus called ZN1 that affected the President of the United States in which he was killed by military personnel. Following the president’s death, the world begins to turn for the worst as the ZN1 virus spreads like wild fire across the world. There are flashes of the news being broadcasted on the world slowly ending as the zombies begin to takeover and the government starts to slowly lose its power. Typically, the end of the world is shown as a dull and gloomy with no sense of moving forward with life. However, in Z Nation the cast members are focused on traveling towards the West to save what is left of humanity. Also, the survivors have no intentions of hurting others they find nor dwell on the negativity that followed the apocalypse. For instance, Roberta did not know how to handle the baby they found crying in the car and made it clear that she was not aware of how to calm a child anymore because hasn’t seen one in years. This is an example of how their lives have changed and adjusted to this new lifestyle. As a woman, Roberta is expected to have the natural extinct to provide a motherlike feeling and actions towards the baby. Instead, Roberta hands the baby off to Charles and states how clueless she is about caring for a baby. Therefore, showing how much their nature state as a human being has changed over the years from the outbreak of the ZN1 virus.
