There are many similarities, but also many differences between the Shakespeare play Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You. First of all you have the names of many of the characters in the movie and play. Next you have the same basic character personalities. Finally you have the same basic plot line of the play in the movie. For differences however, there is a broader category that the differences all fit in for the most part. Essentially, the movie has changed many aspects of the plot and ideas behind the story. First of all, the characters in “Ten Things I Hate About You” all have a similar counterpart in “Taming of the Shrew”. Patrick Verona from “Ten Things I Hate About You” would be the same as Petruchio from “Taming of the Shrew”; they are both seeking out a relationship with the strong-willed and outspoken girl, and they both end up “taming” her, or changing her behavior in some way by the end of the story. Cameron would be relatable to Lucentio and also a little bit Hortensio. The idea behind both is that a man falls in love with a woman who is strong-willed and outspoken and who no one else really wants to try to a relationship with. Even through her fighting it and trying to make him not like her and give up, he ends of finding a way into her heart and changing her for what appears to be the better. He “tamed the shrew”. You also have the idea that the younger sister cannot marry, in the case of the play, and date, in the case of the movie, until the older sister does so. However, the older sister is more than unwilling to even consider that as an option for her. You also have the boys chasing down Bianca to get her to date or marry them, and Bianca ultimately choosing Lucentio, or the Lucentio-like
