It would also be ethical to talk with the student and understand important supportive networks for the student, ASCA (2010) ethical standard A.1.f, and ACA (2014) ethical standard A.1.d. Also, confidentiality would be an important ethical concern, ASCA (2010) standard A.2.d supports that confidentiality be kept, but also takes into consideration the parents’ rights to be involved in the child’s decisions.
