Today, there are only 18 states that have legalized gambling and 30 that have legalized some type of gambling such as lottery or online gambling (Gambling). Casinos, and sports betting and racing are two of the biggest types of gambling. Gambling raises concerns of gambling addictions that can risk a person being thousands of dollars in debt or even cause family problems. Gambling brings jobs to the area and increases economic development, assists local businesses, and online gambling brings a fun new way to watch sports games with friends or coworkers.
First, a casino can bring 2,000 permeant well-paying jobs to an area, such as card dealers, Managers, waiters and waitresses, etc. (Gambling). These jobs will fix one of the biggest …show more content…

Actually, most of the money spent by tourist is not inside the casinos but in the local businesses around the area such as hotels, restaurants, and different types of entertainment outside the casino walls (Gambling). A casinos can bring the economy from being in a struggling place to skyrocketing for example, the city of Las Vegas lives off their thriving casinos. There are around 62,000 hotels rooms in the city of Las Vegas all for the local gambling casinos nearby. Without these extremely profitable casinos, they would not be as well off as they are right now. Another example of a casino bringing profit to a struggling town is Detroit, Michigan. Detroit is the largest city to declare bankruptcy (Gambling). Detroit emergency manager Kevyn Orr wrote in October 2013, “The $120 million in annual casino revenue to the city pays for out proposed 10-year, $1.2 billion interment in essential city services. This is crucial financing that will help the city eradicate blighted properties, invest in public safety and lighting, and modernize the city government services” (Gambling). While this could be true many people are already spending thousands of dollars in online gambling leagues but there are free leagues with just the same amount of enjoyment just less risk involved. Online gambling has increased 42% in the last 12 years which leads to a fun way to watch sports games with friends and family (Fantasy Sports). Some of the opponents of gambling online state that it is all luck and there is no true skill involved in it. Vox contributor Joseph Stromber wrote in August 2015, “We can’t control whether out team wins or lose[s], but we can control how our fantasy team does” (Fantasy Sports). Online sports gaming is not luck but all skill-based and has no luck involved in it. People believe that fantasy sports bring a whole new way to watch sports games. This new and entertaining way to watch some random game that a person would never watch regularly the most entertaining game of the day. Online fantasy websites such as Fan Duel or Draft Kings bring a next level approach to fantasy sports offering low or high prices on games or a season long affair (Fantasy Sports). Multiple free online draft base fantasy leagues have had amazing fan approval. In these free leagues people can feeling the same rush or excitement other people do while in a leagues that requires payments every week.
