In 1984, a book written by George Orwell, you read of a government who came to power through control, fear, and brainwash. My beliefs on the government system have evolved to a new level since I have read this book. Before I read 1984 I felt that you should always trust your government since they are the ones in a higher power. Now I have learned, post reading, that you should not put all your trust in the government. In 1984 Orwell wrote of a government known as Big Brother. No one in Oceania really knows who exactly Big Brother is, and neither do the readers. As far as reading goes, the idea of Big Brother is immortal. They are so used to the way of living that has been set by Big Brother that they don't even question their own beliefs. Why should they? All they have ever known as a leader is Big Brother. That's just like us as Americans. We may question our government system but we still watch it as it corrupts itself. Honestly, our government has been corrupt for centuries. No one has truly fixed the issues that go on nor do they let the people of America know what is really happening. We are blinded by propaganda such as our research on the internet, magazines, and newspapers! We can never depict what is reality and what is fake news. Our society only knows what the government wants us to know, otherwise it is just word of mouth. I personally believe that we are living a life that is identical to the dystopian lifestyle of 1984. Sure, we do not have factions such as the proles, the party members, and the thought police and we do not have a Hate Week, but when it comes to living in a divided country, we are quite similar.
