In 1984, there are many universal theme connections that relate to the world of today. Authored by Orwell, Orwell depicts what he believes the future society of Earth would be like. Orwell creates a society governed by a totalitarian political party. He also illustrates what may happen to human livelihood if we fail to recognize and abolish corrupt atrocities committed by those in power. The novel states and expresses such relation of despair and depicts the dehumanizing of individuals that is all too relevant to the world of today. Overall although Orwell’s connections in his novel are still relevant there are still facets of his mentality that must be critiqued. With everything constantly being watched and heard, there was no potential of an individualistic free willing life. Such a little action, can be accused as what they call a “thoughtcrime” and can be faced with serious punishment. This is why, what you say and what you do must be a wise decision. I agree with that in relation to today’s world, modern technology plays a huge role in comparison to the telescreens. Such things as smart phones, televisions, and video cameras are also the government’s way of having access to our personal lives. Our government, whether we like it or not has the authority to obtain what we think is our “personal” information. This is an example of lost hope. Although we think we are living a private life by keeping our information to ourselves, we are not actually doing what we assume. As Winston reached his peak and finally surrendered to loving Big Brother, his whole life had become secluded. After facing his punishments in the Ministry of Love, his whole outlook on Big Brother completely interchanged. With O’Brien discussing with Winston about the true meaning behind The Party, Winston eventually understood the real meaning of it. He slowly was becoming brainwashed
