In the book, 1984, George Orwell’s world of Oceania, is similar to the world we live in today, but different because George Orwell’s world is more of an extreme version of the present. For example we use acronyms such as OMG or SMH, just like Oceania’s language newspeak, but we still can express ourselves. If anything, I believe we are on the road to becoming a totalitarian ruled world, but we are still somewhat free. First off, in the past few years, the new type of smart TVs have come out. They have a lot of really cool attributes, but the problem is that they have the ability to turn on a camera that can be accessed by the government to watch you. I don’t thinks so, but I do think that have been watching and listening to us, so they can “protect” us. The idea of them doing this makes me uneasy and scared for the future. Next, in Oceania they created a language called Newspeak. Newspeak basically combines or shortens words so they contradict, which doesn’t let the people of Oceania express themselves. For example something extremely bad is called “doubleplus ungood.” This language helps stop people from rebelling with their words and thoughts. In todays world we use acronyms in texting like OMG or LOL, and some people think this is similar to Newspeak. The difference is that although we are shortening words, we are still express ourselves, where as in Newspeak, they cant express how they feel with the words created. Furthermore, like in the book 1984, the world we live in today is always at war. In Oceania they are constantly at war so that they can have a reason to take resources from the people so they will still need the government. We are at war a lot also but I believe it’s to gain resources for our country instead of waste it. Some may believe that we go to war so the people of America will rally together, or some
