I have always wanted to be a journalist from the moment I saw an episode of 60 Minutes with Christiane Amanpour. I believe that the core of Journalism is all about integrity. How Amanpour reported the news, to me, she was the definition of journalism. The purpose of this essay is to offer my ideas of my societal role in the field of Journalism and why it’s important to obey ethical principles when obtaining information and delivering the news.

Vergobbi asked, why be ethical in our field of studies? My answer would be “to remain truthful to the audience.” When it comes to journalism, there is a race to be the first person to report the story. News companies at times tend to ignore the errors of it's reporter. whether if it's political, news, entertainment or even in sports. I feel like journalism is now in the business of making money at the expense of its viewers. Providing real accurate news was a goal in the past, along with its ethical behaviors. I think it will remain the same way until journalists decide to change. Without it, you’re just another personnel working for TMZ or a reporter working on Fox news. When it comes to modern day journalism we have to realize that journalism is converting into a digitized media, as unhappy it makes me. The social media outlet is one of the most used news sources. Since news can easily be accessed, it is essential to focus on accuracy and ethics. Especially when amateurs are out posting "news" using phone cameras. We have to remind ourselves that we are not amateurs but professionals. Our credibility and reputation depend on it. With the digitization of News, it is easier to neglect the necessary ethical foundation of journalism.
