For some kids, middle school is the most torturous time of their lives. For me, I learned a lot about myself. The song I chose to describe my 8th grade year is called “Whatever it Takes” by Imagine Dragons. This song describes my 8th grade year best because I interpret it mostly as talking about the importance being different than other people. I think this year is mostly when I realized the importance of not being like everyone and being completely myself. “Whatever it Takes” talks about the highs and lows of 8th grade, breaking ranks and doing something differently, and not wanting to be like everyone else. Everyday there are going to be good things and bad things happening in my life but it is my responsibility to accept the bad and move on, focusing on the positive. The line, “Break me down and build me up” is what describes the good and bad parts of 8th grade for me. Things like people being mean, bad grades, and stress are things that break me down. Throughout my 8th grade year, getting a bad grade is what bothered me a lot. When I do well in a presentation, have a great cross country or track meet, or get lots of nice compliments on something I feel good.
