Students attend college to broaden their knowledge in an environment dedicated to education and research. There are hundreds of colleges and universities around the country that provide great programs to strengthen one’s education. Choosing a college is found to be extremely difficult, considering it is the first step of adulthood and forming a career. The University of Central Arkansas is located in Conway, Arkansas and has approximately 12,000 students. First, there is a dramatic difference in distance. For a graduate from an Arkansas high school, the distance to Texas A&M University is considerably larger than that of the University of central Arkansas. UCA is in the same state as the graduate, therefore, the student would be able to go home frequently or simply have the assurance that family is close by. Texas A&M is a much farther college in the state of Texas. Due to the larger distance, there would not be as much of a family safety net. Texas A&M University is a diverse and unique college that stretches over five thousand acres. The Texas A&M campus is extremely large compared to the average university size. The average size for a freshman class can range from three hundred to five hundred students in one auditorium. The campus at the University of Central Arkansas is between two hundred and three hundred acres, only a small fraction of the campus at Texas A&M. This is a benefit to a student considering UCA because it is much easier to know the campus and understand its layout. Also, the class size is much smaller at UCA, allowing a student to understand the material better.
