Rough draft Texas A&M is the first public institution. The student body is 50,000 and the campus has 5,200 acres of land. The first name of Texas A&M was Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. Texas A&M is one of the six senior military colleges. The university is home to 170,000 people. The State of Texas agreed to create Texas A&M under the Morrill Act of November 1866. Admission to college was only allowed to white males. All students were required to participate in military training. Texas A&M went through a lot of changes.
