A Deeper Look into Plagiarism
In today’s time plagiarism is common amongst high school and college students. Most students rely on resources such as the internet, books, and articles when writing papers. Because of the widespread of the internet plagiarism has become more accessible for students. There are ways that a student can avoid plagiarizing by writing responsibly, and understanding how to use the proper formats of writing. There can also be consequences when a student plagiarizes any type of writing and use it as their own work.

Plagiarism is the misuse of ideas, thoughts, or writings without giving the accreditation to the author (Hult & Huckin, 2011). Plagiarizing can be done intentionally or unintentionally. Unintentional plagiarism can happen when a student paraphrases, but the paraphrase is a little too similar compared to the original. Unintentional Plagiarism can also happen when the citation isn’t completed correctly, or non-existing. Intentional Plagiarism is done when a student copy’s another person’s work word for word, or the student goes online and purchases a paper. …show more content…

When writing a paper it is very easy to plagiarize even when you think you are not. Any student that is aware of plagiarizing and doesn’t attempt to avoid it can expect major consequences. A student can be suspended or expelled from school depending on the severity of the situation. When a student plagiarizes it may possibly destroy their academic record which can affect college decisions. Plagiarism can also cause a student to have a lack in knowledge when copying others work and passing it off as their own. Plagiarizing can also have an effect on one’s professional reputation which can affect future job
