Plagiarism and Academic Dishonesty The purpose of this assignment was to get a better understanding of plagiarism, academic dishonesty, and how to ensure the work I submit is my own. As a student at Franklin University I need to know what constitutes academic dishonesty, which includes plagiarism. We were asked to answer some key questions to enhance our knowledge of the policies and procedures in place at Franklin University as well as find ways to avoid plagiarism.
My Responses Plagiarism to me is submitting any work, whether it is a written paper or exam, that is not my own. Plagiarism is a form of cheating. It can be as simple as not citing a source that was used to blatant copying and pasting material. Plagiarism is also a violation of academic integrity at Franklin University and there are penalties for academic dishonesty which can be found in the Academic Bulletin (p.18- 19). Penalties for academic dishonesty range from getting a zero on an assignment or course failure for the first incident and/or dismissal from the University if it is a second and final incident. I would not want a professor to think I am cheating or submitting work that is anything but my own. I follow the rules and do not like to break them!
