I’ve wanted to be a nurse since I was four years old because I wanted to help people through some of their most vulnerable moments. My passion for nursing comes from seeing my younger brother live at Children’s Hospital in Dallas until he was three. He was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor just after he was born and had it removed when he turned one. Most four-year old’s don’t remember much about their childhood but I can clearly remember spending my summers at Children’s. I can remember a group of nurses taking me back to their station and acting like I was their little helper while my parents accompanied my brother through his weekly treatments. This act of kindness made me realize that I wanted to become a nurse who gives patient care that meets a patients physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs so they can get back to living their daily lives. …show more content…

I’m currently an LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse). and I realized quick that in East Texas, its best to get an advanced nursing license if your wanting to assist surgically. It took me a while to justify the extra effort, time, and money required to become a surgical nurse rather than staying an LVN. This dilemma is held by many who enter this career path. The minimum requirement for nurses is also evolving. Most organizations are now requiring nurses to have at least their RN to be hired on. Just here in East Texas we can see how CNA’s, Medical Assistants, and even LVN’S are becoming scarcer in hospital settings. If your wanting a stable job in a hospital setting, then you’ll benefit from becoming at least a Registered
