A 2004 film called "A Powerful True Story: John Hus" depicts the life and career of John Hus, a Bohemian theologian and religious reformer who lived in the 14th and 15th centuries. The story of this Christian reformer who stood up for his convictions against the corrupt Catholic Church is depicted in an uplifting and compelling manner in the film, which was written and produced by David Batty.

Theologian and preacher John Hus lived in the Kingdom of Bohemia (now the Czech Republic) in the late 14th and early 15th century. He was born in the tiny hamlet of Husinec in 1369, and he later attended the University of Prague where he graduated with a Bachelor's and a Master's degree. Hus developed a passion for John Wycliffe's writings while he was a student because of his criticism of Catholic Church doctrine and practices. Wycliffe was an English theologian. Wycliffe's views on the reliability of the Bible and the value of preaching in the native tongue particularly appealed to Hus.
Hus began preaching at Prague's Bethlehem Chapel after completing his studies, where he gained a large following. His sermons were preached in Czech, which was rare at the time because the majority were in Latin. Hus utilized his platform to advocate for Catholic Church reform and to cast doubt on the power of the clergy and the Pope.
