Humans will live on the Mars planet in the next 20 years. In TED talk, Stephen Petranek did his speech about “Your kids might live on Mars. Here’s how they’ll survive,” based on the concept of backup plan for human survival, uploaded in March 2015. Stephen Petranek is an American writer and editor of Breakthrough Technology Alert, who focuses on how emerging technologies could benefit human future lives. In his TED talk, Petranek layout all the true facts that support his prediction of how human will live on Mars. He did an excellent job at drawing into his audience with information that is questioning of survival fitness, while simultaneously challenging others to view that there is a possibility to live on Mars. Logos refers to the strength of an argument’s support, which in this case is extremely strong through the incorporation of logic through different examples of research and statistic. When questioning how far is the Mars from Earth and what kind of technology that will help human to get there or live there. The speaker would be comparing between mars and earth to understand the differences. Mars has one “hundred times” thinner atmosphere than earth, and it’s not breathable because “96 percent “of the atmosphere is carbon dioxide. To get there, a human has to travel 250 million miles and 8 months to Mars. This is clear, that the mission of colonizing of the Mars is impossible and yet Petranek proved his spectator wrong by showing first human achievement to the moon and evidently, Nasa has sent a rocket to the Mars before, and one-third of the rockets are successfully landing on the moon; however, they don’t have big rocket enough for human yet. He focuses emotion on the home planet, which human should “take far better care” of Earth. It’s understandable sensation, in fact, that greenhouse effect was the result of human activities. This is one of the reasons for why a human should leave the Earth because of the dangers of radiation from the sun. Another emotion, he brought John F. Kennedy as an example of inspiration. All the Americans should know this, John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of united states who announced that he would put a human on Moon and people were excited to dream. He is questioning his audience directly “think how inspired we will be to see a landing on Mars,” because Petranek knew that they would be curious too, which is effective. It helps him to interact with his audience. Petranek had preliminary emotional attachment by speaking about earth condition and inspiring speech from John F. Kennedy, but by asking the question, he gives his audience of what next paragraph will discuss about. Petranek utilizes his pathos very effective because he gets the spectator interested in his matter of discussion, which is very important in employing rhetorical strategies and tends to be persuasive.
Petranek is clearly credibility for his speech, He is the author of TED book “How we’ll live on Mars, “and publishing on the same year, he did with his speech on TED talk, 2015. When he informs
