The barrier is unleashed in my mind and my heart compresses in it's cage as I once again crack under the pressure of bullying. I understand how it feels to fall prey to predators that hunt the weak and the innocent. I find myself asking why do humans think that bullying, intentional harm-doing or harassment that is directed toward vulnerable targets, is a form of entertainment? A study conducted in the United States documented that bullying and other forms of aggression affect approximately 30 percent, or 5.7 million, middle- to high-school students("bullying"). People, mostly teens, in today's society wind up acquring serious and sometimes permanent damages due to the soul defining act of bullying.
Generally, those who have experienced the displeasure of bullying crawl into a dark hole brimming with self doubt, anxiety and depression. Certainly, lack of self confidence can make it rocky to speak up for something valued in life. No doubt questions linger over the simplest things and left fretting about small mishaps. Furthermore, anxiety can make one skittish and suspicious of others in a crowd. Point in fact, when periodically bashed into your cranium that you are not worthy to breath, or unable to fight for a place on Earth, a space constructs in the spirit where depression may reside (Dombeck "Long Term Effects of Bullying").
