ACBT: Your Gateway to a Quality Australian Education.

When asked what ACBT is, Dr. Chandana Aluthge- Principal of ACBT, described the institute as a higher education institute operating within Sri Lanka, offering students higher education opportunities and Australian degree programs. It is also a pathway provider- a relatively new concept wherein the student can carry out part of their degree programme here in Sri Lanka and then complete the rest at the parent university, which drastically reduces the expense needed to complete the students’ higher education overseas.

Dr. Aluthge stated that Navitas has extensive plans to expand ACBt in the year 2017 in order to provide better services to the students.

While students with the required entry qualifications can directly join the degree programme, ACBT also offers a university foundation course, which serves as a qualifier for the degree programme. The foundation course is accepted by Australian universities and is designed to cater to the requirements of the Australian education system. Dr. Aluthge described the course as something that, though not its equivalent, is similar to the GCSE A/Ls.

Students with 5 O/L passes and 2 credit passes for GCSE Ordinary Level can join the foundation level, while those students who do not have the required qualifications can join the pre-foundation course- which is similar to certificate level 3 in the Australian qualification network. The pre-foundation gives students termed and often dismissed as ‘weak students’ an opportunity to pursue their higher

Dr. Aluthge also stated that in the near future ACBT plans to unveil the Graduate Certificate- a three unit competitive post graduate qualification. Students who follow the programme will have an advanced standing for the MBA, as the ECU will exempt them from the three units, allowing them the freedom of only completing 9 units for the MBA rather than the traditional 12.

ACBT has formed credit articulation agreements with leading Australian universities over the years. Recently, ACBT formed such an agreement with Griffith University where ACBT students with IT diplomas can apply and receive numerous choices for their further studies. The university recognizes the areas of study offered by ACBT and students will be exempted from following them at the University. ACBT has formed such agreements with Wollongong University, University of Canberra, Queensland Institute of Technology, etc.

ACBT has campuses in Colombo, Kandy and Galle and the lecture panel consists of university lecturers as well as industry experts. For the foundation and diploma level courses in engineering, which ACBT introduced last year, the institute employs lecturers from SLIIT and University of Moratuwa. The lecturer are approved by the
