Through harsh rejection and preposterous delusions, Abigail Williams abused her good name and became the fault for the bitter ends of many for something they were not guilty of. I have reread significant sections of The Crucible several times and have read and analyzed it to the best of my ability on multiple occasions. Once reading this book in my Honors English Course at the number one high school in the state of California, we carefully analyzed the characters, going as far as even making character charts, to understand them and their intentions much better. Arthur Miller was born in Harlem on October 17, 1915, the son of Polish immigrants, Isidore and Augusta Miller. Miller's father had established a successful clothing store upon coming to America, so the family enjoyed wealth; however, this prosperity ended with the Wall Street Crash of 1929. Financial hardship compelled the Miller family to move to Brooklyn in 1929. The Crucible was a play written by Arthur Miller it is a dramatized and partially fictionalized story of Salem that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony during 1692/93.
Gross corruption is when somebody is willing to procure anything out of greed or selfishness to gain money and power. One of many examples from “The Crucible” is Abigail Williams, Reverend Parris’s niece, she wants to be with John Proctor, but she is willing to anything to get rid of his wife, Elizabeth Proctor. Out of envy, Abigail accused Elizabeth of witchcraft, knowing that Goody Proctor would be executed. Envy is one of the toxins in our society today, and my assumption to get rid of envy is to praise each other, and be more grateful for what we possessed. Instead of bring another person down, bring yourself up, and work harder.
In the Poem “David” by Earle Birney, two young men undergo adventure while scaling the rocky mountains. One character is more outgoing than the other and is willing to do anything to get to the top. However while the men were almost at the top of the mountain they undergo a life altering challenge. The men have to make an decision what would happen to one another. Altogether the centralized theme in Birney’s “David” is sometimes doing the right thing can lead to negative consequences.
The Crucible takes place in 1692, in Salem when several women have been accused of witchcraft including John and Elizabeth Proctor’s maid, Abigail Williams. Abigail was later fired, not for dancing naked in the woods and caught by Parris, but for having an affair with John Proctor. Once caught, they accused the townspeople and how witchcraft possessed them. A huge court session begins. To determine whether or not someone was innocent or guilty, the girls and Abigail would distress the ones they thought were guilty by screaming and fainting.

In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Miller introduces the idea, apparent in today’s world, that sometimes people blame others to save themselves from punishment through the characters’ actions and the asides from Miller. The most prominent character that displays this theme is Abigail Williams. Several times Abigail pushes the blame on others when she senses trouble. When Parris finds the girls dancing in the forest, Abigail knows she has to do something to avoid punishment.

In the play, it is revealed that she has been dancing in the woods with girls of Salem and performing voodoo with her uncle’s slave, Tituba. Dancing is a very big sin in Salem, dancing is one of the signs of witchcraft so when rumors of witchcraft begin to circulate through the town Abigail and Betty start naming people as witches in order to divert suspicion from themselves.

In the play, The Crucible, Abigail Williams and a group of girls danced and conjured spirits in the woods and began the hysteria of witchcraft in Salem. As the story unfolds, Abigail starts out as a troublemaker and gets caught in the woods. She lies to her uncle and tries to save herself but gets caught and fesses up. She is also obsessed with John Proctor, who is trying to push her away after an affair. Abigail was most responsible for witchcraft in Salem and should be held responsible for the imprisonment and execution of innocent people because she lied to all of the townspeople first and had an affair with John Proctor.

Many prior events that shaped Abigail influence her behavior in the literary work, such as the loss of her parents. However, one’s actions cannot be excused by the events of their past. Therefore, Abigail Williams is completely at fault for the commencement of the witch hysteria that ruins the lives of many innocent individuals.
In this paper I will argue that Abigail Williams is not a trustworthy person. Abigail is an orphan she has constant to feel important and wanted.she was involved in an affair with John Proctor .She hates his wife because she spreads rumors about her. Abigail begins to show me her true character through the scene describing her dancing in the woods. While they were in the woods Abigail was setting a spell on John Proctor's wife.
