In the book that handle is known as “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, goes into detail about what happened in the Salem WItch trials in the duration of 1692. Miller used the Red Scare as motivation to write the book. In the book Abigail and some of her friends are dancing in the woods, when Mr. Parris ( her uncle) catches them. At this point Betty, Mr. Parris daughter and Abigail’s cousin, faints.
The witch trials in Salem occurred because of Abigail and it is her fault. She started something she could not finish and by starting it killed many innocent people and ruined many reputations. Abigail is at blame because she was the one who is basically the "psycho girlfriend" who is obsessed with her ex. But because she is desperately in love with John Proctor, she is willing to do anything to have him all to herself. Just like how she drank a chicken blood charm to kill Elizabeth, which is against her religion.

Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in 1953. Arthur Miller wrote the play because he was inspired by McCarthyism. McCarthyism was the hunt for communists that was taken too far. In The Crucible he presented a universal message. He was comparing how communists did exist and witches did not, but yet they were both taken as serious.
Abigail is to blame for most of the events that have took place in this play. So when Betty became ill after dancing and she had nothing wrong with her health, Parris and others thought that it was witchcraft. To save herself from getting in trouble, Abigail confessed that it was witchcraft.
The 17th century was an eerie period for the small village of Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, especially for the common villagers. The Puritans were a strict group of voyageurs who traveled from England to escape the persecution of their religious beliefs. Ironically enough, the Puritans had been hostile to individuals who didn’t believe in their beliefs, such as Christians. Relative to how they lived, the Puritans of Salem have restricted any type of enjoyment. A vacation for them merely meant that they had to concentrate more on their prayer.
Abigail Williams, Deputy Governor Danforth , and Thomas Putnam are responsible for the people, who were wrongly convicted and hanged. These three characters were either looking for vengeance, looking for land, or too dimwitted to realize they were being conned. Hatred was walking in salem and people took their chances accusing their witnesses of being witches to get what they wanted. Abigail Williams was a teenage girl, who reeked vengeance on Elizabeth Proctor.
During the late 17th century a total of 200 people were accused of participating in witchcraft, while 19 people lost their lives to the mass hysteria. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, a group of girls start a huge uproar in Salem, Massachusetts when they start screeching about Salemites being associated with the Devil. Throughout the play write, it shows the consequences of mass hysteria and how it puts people's lives in danger. Abigail Williams causes a wave of mass hysteria and because of her trickery, innocent people have died by her and the other girl’s actions, for this Abigail is the most unforgivable character in The Crucible.
In the Crucible, by Arthur Miller, the witch trials killed many innocent people. People were accused of being witches, and if they didn’t admit it they were hung. If a sin was made in the highly Christian Puritan society, people were hung. At different parts in the play, the characters could have stopped the trials from with evidence that proves them innocent. However, since there was power on the line and the awkwardness of some of the characters, the trials were not stopped before the deaths of many.
In “The Crucible,” many things happen to innocent people because of a group of girls. The play starts with this same group of girls, who are in the forest practicing witchcraft. During the time in which the play takes place, anyone who practiced witchcraft was sentenced and had to await trial to see whether or not they were innocent or guilty. This group of girls claimed they saw the Devil, and that some of the people were ‘seen’ with the Devil. They accused two innocent people named Sarah Good and Sarah Osborne.
Throughout the play, more specifically in Act II, she is mentioned having an affair with John Proctor; who used to be their servant. When they get the chance to be alone; he then tells her that the affair is over. She does not like his response, and blames Elizabeth for keeping them apart. In spite of his reaction, Abigail plots vengeance against Elizabeth. Abigail blames her for sending out her spirit to stick a needle through her stomach.
