Abortion is a very controversial subject that almost everyone, in every part of the world has an opinion on. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of an abortion is “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.” Since anyone can remember, abortion has always been a questionable subject. There might not ever be a time that everyone can agree upon one solution. Back in the 1800s, abortions were announced illegal in the United States because people did not have a lot of knowledge about medical procedures and performing abortions became life threatening to women all around the country. Wade case was a historical case which was when abortion was legalized. As stated on Encyclipedia.com the Roe vs. Wade case was “a landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that declared a pregnant woman is entitled to have an abortion until the end of the first trimester of pregnancy without any interference by the state.” Richard Nixon was president during this time period. Norma McCorvey, who was also known as Jane Doe in the Roe vs. Wade case had a conversion soon after the case and joined the anti-abortion movement. As stated on nbc news, “McCorvey formed her own group, Roe No More Ministry, in 1997 and traveled around the country speaking out against abortion.” McCorvey had a conversion unlike any other and is a role model for many people who went through having an abortion just like she did.”The United States Supreme Court ruling of January 22, 1973, (Roe vs. Wade and Doe vs Bolton) struck down the laws in all 50 states, allowing abortion – for any reason – up to the moment of live birth. The father of the child, even if he is married to the mother, has no legal right to prevent the abortion.” (Prolife across America) The father of the unborn baby has no legal right to the baby while it is unborn but the moment the baby is born, the father has to pay child support and has legal rights. It all depends on how many weeks old the unborn baby is. More often than not, the mother most often has an abortion in the first trimester. During the first trimester, the mother would be in her first three months of pregnancy. In the first stages of pregnancy, a medical abortion or surgical abortion are offered. “Eighteen days after the moment of conception, the baby's heart begins to beat with it’s own blood.”(Prolife Across America) Many women that are having an abortion do not know that the baby has a heart beat or that the baby can feel everything that is being done to them. At around fifeteen weeks old, the baby’s organs are completed forming and they begin to function regularly. Also at around fifeteen weeks old, the unborn baby's sex can be detected. The earliest a baby can survive outside of the womb is when they are 6 months old. “Abortion is legal in America through all nine months of pregnancy. Over 1.3 million legal abortions occur in America each year.
