Then the Civil War started to erupt on April 12 1861, Abraham Lincoln was not prepared to be the next commander in chief compared to his fellow officers and had much to learn on his new journey of being the 16th President of the United States. Lincoln only had one military experience before his presidency in 1832 when he became the captain in the Black Hawk war, but saw no action and didn’t fully receive the experience of being in war. Before becoming president Lincoln was a lawyer which assisted him to learn quickly as the new president. As a great example of Lincoln being a astonishing commander in chief is that Lincoln was against slavery in the Southern States and some in the Northern States.
