Having certainty in everything you do will eventually lead to inevitable demise; however so will have constant doubt in your thoughts and actions. William Lyon Phelps and Bertrand Russell have conflicting views regarding the importance of certainty and doubt. Phelps position is that having certainty in oneself allows you to accomplish impossible tasks. While Russell, believes it is healthy to have a certain amount of doubt in oneself and that people should not only believe in any one philosophy. Both Russell and Phelps make good points on the relationship between doubt and certainty but a combination of the two would be the most helpful. While developing an absolute sense of certainty is important in achieving goals, it is important to counter such action with a degree of doubt in order that you may not waste, hurt, or ignore time and other irreplaceable measurables. Trump, for example, is an individual who has always spoke his mind and expressed his opinions candidly and with full certainty; this is one of the largest reasons he won the presidential election. During his election rally speeches he always includes “build that wall” referring to a wall between Mexico and the United States.
