In the novel,Absolutely True Diary Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Axle,Arnold spirit, the protagonist, is a nerdy kid with health problems. Arnold has big hands and a big head that many people make fun of him for. Also, he is so smart that he has to act dumb so that Indians won’t know how smart he is. ‘’like he said in the book that I have to look dumb near them so that they will now that i don 't belong’’. Arnold has health problems because he said that it happens to him in the beginning of the book.
In “The Absolutely True Dairy of Part Time Indian” there was a lot of struggling throughout the book. Junior, who was also known as Arnold Spirit. He had a lot of difficulty and had to go through a lot of struggling more over with the illness that he was born with. He was born with some brain damages, a brain grease called hydrocephalic. He also had some other illnesses seizures that was susceptible, even though he contact with doctor and was doing fine for few year but the doctor said it was possible for his seizures to be active.
In life you have many choices. One of which is deciding whether or not you are going to succeed or fail in life. In other words, choosing to stay hopeful or not. The author Sherman Alexie puts Junior as well as other characters in situations to make those hard decisions.
In the beginning of the book, Junior says that living on the reservation has generations of Indians losing hope. They accept their lives as their ancestors did.. His parents couldn't follow their dreams because they didn't have a support system. Junior is the example of how one can break the path of the traditional life on the reservation if one has the motivation and a good support system. Junior had the love and emotional support of his parents and was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to attend a prestigious Prep school based on the suggestion of Mr. P, a teacher at the rez school.

This novel is entertaining because of the illustrations and the connection between the audience and the characters. Normal chapter book doesn't usually have illustrations, but this book has many illustrations to help the reader to have an idea of what is going on in the situation. The pictures itself are very funny and adds more to the book in general. The story and plot is already amazing but the picture finishes the book and makes entertaining. It is also amazing how it connects with Arnold because he like to draw comic characters, and to see the picture Arnold draws shows the audience more to Arnold and is mindset.
