Abuse of the Welfare System
Welfare has been an on going problem since we can probably remember and then some, but lately it seems to be a much bigger problem when people go to the grocery store and buy $150 worth of food and see another person have two carters full of food and pay with food stamps and ask themselves, how come I work hard for my money and get so little, while they are on welfare and get more than I do. It is the very less than 2% that abuse the system give the rest of the 39% of the population a bad name, not to mention that some of those people on welfare are veterans or disabled. During the time people who abuse the welfare system they create a stereotype, which then creates a label. The people that cheat the system by reporting less income than he or she is earning since the type of benefits they can receive is determined by income, create a stereotype that everyone cheats the system, everyone is a drug addict, and they are “popping out” babies left and right. Well, proven that I have already stated that only less than 2% actually cheat the system, those who do cheat the system end up getting caught and their on numerous of stories on websites that show them. Not everyone on welfare is a drug addict, at least 13 out of the 50th states in the United States have a, “drug testing for welfare recipients and public assistance,” stated on the website National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSI), so this also shows evidence that not everyone on welfare are drug addicts, and to people thinking that they use EBT to buy alcohol, they are again wrong because EBT cannot be use in anything else other than food and the essentials.
