Abusing A Victim To Substance Abuse Essay

People of all races, genders, and age groups experiment with drugs all of the time. Some people are able to use recreational drugs without experiencing negative consequences, or addiction. However, some are not as lucky. Some individuals enjoy the feeling so much the first time they begin to crave more. These individuals are those that are attempting to escape from daily problems, or what is better known as, reality. Most people that fall victim to substance abuse are those that trying to find a way to cope with daily struggle, but what an abuser fails to realize it, the problem only disappears for that moment in time. When the high wears off, the problems return only making everything worse. This can result in new problems leaving an individual with the feelings of helplessness or shame in who they have become. As stated in the help guide article, “people experiment with drugs for many reasons” (Par. 3). First time drug users try drugs for the first time out of curiosity, the need to fit in, to have a good time, or to ease another problem such as stress, anxiety, or depression. It is very important to understand drug use, drug abuse, and addiction. There are many ways to identify if a loved one or close friend has fallen victim to substance abuse such as, physical signs, behavioral signs, and psychological signs.

An individual who is a victim of substance abuse could experience any of the following; bloodshot eyes, increase, or decrease in pupil size, changes in appetite, changes in sleep patterns, sudden change in weight, neglecting personal appearance, unusual smells on breath or clothes, tremors, slurred speech, and impaired coordination. Many of these signs can be an indication that an individual is under the influence. However, drug users are often wise enough, and try to conceal their symptoms, making it more difficult to
