(About Us, 2015) In order to meet this challenge of preparing students for the demands of the 21st century
M3 Task: Explain how an awareness of learning styles can aid your development In this task I will be explaining how an awareness of learning styles can aid your development in being an effective learner. There are different types of learning styles that different people have and I’ll be explaining how these aid the learner to progress. For example there are 3 main learning styles these are Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic.
When students set out for higher education and prepare for their future they usually have an end goal in mind. When most students come to college, they typically have an idea of what degree to pursue or what they are interested in studying. In Sanford J. Ungar’s article “The New Liberal Arts” he quoted that “The responsibility of higher education today is to prepare people for jobs that do not yet exist” (657). However, whatever job a student ends up in is significantly helped through higher education. With this in mind, college students need to have the skills needed to adapt to any situation and perform in many different ways.
When it comes to this semester, things for me are going well. So far in the course, I have been able to get all my homework and reading entirely on time and not rushing things at the last minute. This week nine discussion I thought gave us a chance to showcase what well learned on the aspects of resume building and higher education career development for individuals. A lot of the information of have learned from week nine will assist in my research into the final project for this course. Learning about the news about career counseling in setting in scenes like elementary, high school to higher education’s makes us focus on the individual and what they want their future to look like.
After completing his own education, he has continued to work towards improving student success in all fields of study. At UMBT, experimenting with redesigning courses proved successful in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, but the same results
2. For General Education Competencies what I demonstrated in my artifact is using Critical Thinking: Learners will demonstrate the ability to draw conclusions based
This means that I can use a variety of strategies to retain and understand information. From this questionnaire, I also learned that my strongest learning categories were kinesthetics and visuals. To continue supporting my success as a student, I plan to combine kinesthetic and visual learning strategies with the resources that Walden provides. Walden’s Academic Skills Center provides a variety of resources that promote the success of Walden students (Walden University, 2023). Resources in the academic skills center such as peer mentors and success strategies can help me to strengthen my learning style as well as help me enhance my academic and professional skills overall.
Self-discipline is one main component I feel is demonstrated through sports and school. I have trained myself to not get overconfident or too low on myself when I make a mistake. When working on homework, I manage my time to complete my work before taking any personal
1. Please explain one or two of those experiences. Was it for class? For work?
There are many ways to define success and there are also many ways people view success in different ways. Individuals can achieve success while venturing down many different paths in life and (conversely) people can also fail in while following a single path to success. Cathy Davidson discusses the positives of the impact that technology has on the classroom in, her writing, “Project Classroom Makeover.” Davidson also discusses how society has been moving towards a standardized way of learning for the past few decades. The knowledge that the public needed to know throughout the past was not as intense as what they need to can comprehend now.
I discovered a large gap in my knowledge of the educational system where I governed the laws of my educational approach based on my experiences in the public school education system. In my experiences, the classes that succeeded were ones in which I was given the most leeway about the assignments, not restrictive classes where all that was taught and tested on was the curriculum prepared beforehand. Therefore, I found the article “When Choice Motivates and When It Does Not” by Idit Katz and Avi Assor a very intriguing read. As it states in the abstract, choice needs to be presented in a way that benefits student’s learning processes. As a student, it is discouraging that in high school thinking and self-fullfilment in the academic realm needs
• Identify three out of five skills or competencies you have acquired through participation in general education courses that will help you strive to meet your academic and career goals. Through participation in general education courses, there are a number of skills or competencies I have acquired that will help me strive to meet my academic and career goals. The three skills I have acquired are the following: apply ethics and moral reasoning to academic knowledge and societal concerns, exhibit clear communication skills through investigative research and writing, and utilize information technology skills appropriate to interdisciplinary studies. • Describe your three chosen skills and explain which activities, assignments, or courses helped you acquire them
My philosophy on self management requires that an educator is to supply the student with the information they need and with the fundamentals to observe and to find resolutions to the issues at hand. All students have different learning abilities and a teacher must incorporate projects and hands-on activities that will educate them to function properly in a class setting. For my future 2nd grade class I plan to give my students responsibilities, providing them with the capability to set goals and reach them. The use of a planner would be one strategy that I would utilize to keep the students focused and in the same token it teaches them organization, neatness and punctuality which are all key ingredients to self management. It helps teachers
The diversity of student backgrounds, abilities and learning styles makes each person unique in the way he or she reacts to information. The intersection of diverse student backgrounds and active learning needs a comfortable, positive environment in which to take root. Dr. King continues by explaining, “Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.” From back then to today’s society, kids are failing because they lack those morals that they need to succeed.
