Nursing regulates its performance by accreditation and certification in ensuring safe and competent practice. In the U. S. there are two nationally recognized accrediting agencies in nursing education. According to the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) (2016), accredits different types of nursing programs (associates, baccalaureate, and masters). According to Ellis & Halstead (2012) the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) which accredits some baccalaureate, graduate, and doctoral nursing programs. All Nursing education programs must be accredited as a post-secondary educational institution with local and state governing board’s approval to grant the degree or certificate.
