Advertisements have become a large part of our lives as television, online streaming, and magazines are becoming more popular over the years. There are advertisements for just about every product and they all have different approaches in catching the viewers’ attention. However, over the years, advertisers are becoming cleverer in their techniques of underlying hidden messages. That is why the online advertisement I have chosen to summarize and analyze is the Diet Pepsi ad that features their new skinny can and celebrity Sophia Vergara. This ad really intrigued me because they were able to create a couple different effects in just one photo. Sophia Vergara is supposed to represent the qualities of an ideal woman which is being skinny and sexy like the Pepsi can displays. It features Sophia Vergara taking a sip though a colored straw from the new skinny Diet Pepsi can. Sophia appears to be wearing a blue dress and hat, red lipstick, and pale skin which match coincidentally to the Pepsi brand’s red, white, and blue logo colors. Not only does she match those colors, but the straw and can also appear to be the same. The ad is placed in a blue background to give off the feeling of being cool and relaxed when enjoying a diet Pepsi. Sophia is shown in the photo modeling in a provocative position to try and appeal to the female audience. It also features the new diet Pepsi can which contains a label that states it has 0 calories, carbs, and sugars to emphasize that it is healthier alternative to other soft drinks. Photoshop to the right of the can are the words “the new skinny can” in lower case letters and sideways to match the size of the can.
